Join us at the Millennium Gallery this spring for a celebration of our magnificent, multicultural city.
Marking Refugee Heritage Week and Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month, Welcoming Cultures will bring together music, performance, art, photography, talks and traditional dress from across Sheffield’s diverse communities.
Drop into the ‘People Library’ to hear first-hand stories from community figures, and visit stalls from a range of community partners to find out more about cultural heritage in the city.
There’s also a great afternoon of entertainment lined-up, with a vibrant programme of live music, performances and presentations from 1.30pm.
Throughout the day you’ll have the chance to explore the Hidden Histories ‘tree’ installation, reflecting on the Roma Holocaust. Commissioned as part of the Migration Matters Festival, the installation displays present a compelling series of stories, poems, quotes, children’s activities and more, all developed with Roma young people and families.
Welcoming Cultures is produced by Terezia Rostas, Roma cultural consultant and founder of Care for Young People’s Future, with support from Roots and Futures – University of Sheffield, Sheffield City Council, RosaSencis Film Production Company and Sheffield Museums.
