Tune in to our Facebook page on Wed 25 Aug at 1pm for our next online talk!

Members of the V&A Museum’s curatorial team will join us to talk about objects from the V&A’s Asian collection that are currently on display at the Millennium Gallery.

Discover the 19th Century Iranian water-pipe that is beautifully decorated with inlaid gold, an ox-shaped vessel from China with intricate enamelling, and a finely engraved water vessel from the Mughal Empire. Hear about each object’s use, decoration and place in wider social context.

Leading the talk will be:

  • Revati Mann, Assistant Curator in the South and Southeast Asian section of the V&A. She joined the museum in 2019 from the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.
  • Dr Ben Hinson, an Egyptologist and the Assistant Curator in the Middle East Section of the V&A.
  • Ricarda Brosch, Assistant Curator in the East Asia section of the V&A. Prior to joining the V&A she worked at the Asian Art Museum in Berlin.

If you can’t make the live broadcast, the video will be available to watch later on our Facebook Live page or on our Sheffield Museums Live archive page.

The display of items in the Millennium Gallery forms part of the V&A’s flagship educational programme, DesignLab Nation. First launched in April 2017, with the V&A’s Art Fund Museum of the Year 2016 prize money, DesignLab Nation brings secondary schools, local industry and regional museums together, to bolster the teaching of art, design and technology (D&T) and inspire the next generation of designers, makers and innovators. To date, the V&A has worked with over 21 schools on the project and loaned 114 objects to regional museums.
