Planning a visit

Welcoming you back to the Millennium Gallery, safely

We’re really looking forward to seeing you at the Millennium Gallery.

Below you can find details of opening times, how to book your visit, all the measures we’ve put in place and what we’re asking of you during your time in the gallery. We’ve also put together a Q&A which we hope covers the things you might want to know in advance of coming to see us.

Opening Times

We’ve temporarily changed the Millennium Gallery opening hours. You are able to visit:

Mon-Sat 10am - 4pm
Sun 11am - 4pm

Pre-Book Your Visit

You now need to book a free ticket to visit the Millennium Gallery – pre-book the date and time of your visit here:

Booking link button

Alongside pre-booking, we’re still accommodating some walk-up visits, although capacity is strictly limited. If you haven’t booked, when you arrive we’ll ask you for some information as part of the NHS Track & Trace programme.

When You Arrive

If you’ve pre-booked, we’ll check you in and you’re good to go. You can either have your booking confirmation ready on your phone or just give us your name and we'll find your booking info.

If you haven’t booked, we’ll just need to take a little bit of information for the NHS Track & Trace programme and will admit you as soon as possible.

Visitors are required to wear a face covering when they enter the building – this is in line with Government guidance. Children under the age of 11 don’t need to wear a face covering – you can find details of further exemptions here.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, please don’t visit the gallery.

During Your Visit

Once you’re inside the gallery you’ll see some of the temporary changes we’ve made to keep everyone safe and ensure they can enjoy their visit. These include:

  • Limiting the number of visitors in the building and exhibition spaces
  • Hand sanitiser available at the gallery entrance and exit
  • Clear social distancing guidance
  • Enhanced cleaning throughout the day
  • Removing some interactives for a little while
  • Keeping doors open wherever possible to avoid multiple touch points
  • Screens on our shop counter and card-only payments
  • Changing our air handling system to continuously bring fresh air into the building

During your visit please continue to wear your face covering, practise social distancing and keep younger visitors with you.

What’s On

Toilets & Baby Change

The toilets and baby change at the Millennium Gallery are open in a limited capacity to enable social distancing.

Socially-distanced queue markers are in place by the toilets.

Enhanced cleaning is taking place throughout the day.

The Millennium Gallery Shop is now open. A Perspex screen has been installed on the shop counter and the shop layout has been reconfigured to support social distancing. For the time being the shop will only be able to accept card payments. Prints of lots of the paintings in the museum can also be purchased online through our Print on Demand service or via Art UK.

Food & Drink

The gallery café, Ambulo, is now open with a limited menu and socially-distanced indoor seating. The outdoor seating area has also been extended.

Food and drink is not permitted in the museum’s galleries.

Making a Donation

Your museums need your support, now more than ever. Your generous donations and the income generated through our shops, cafés, events and corporate hire help to keep your museums free and open. As a charity, closing the doors for nearly five months has meant we’ve lost that vital income and we now need your help as we face the financial challenges ahead. With your support, your museums and galleries can continue to provide great cultural experiences for the people of Sheffield and beyond.

Please consider making a donation when you pre-book your free visit. Your support at this challenging time is needed more than ever.

Once you’re in the gallery you’ll find our quick and easy contactless donation station in the main thoroughfare.

Our cash donation boxes will still be available too – you’ll find those in the main foyer and in each of our exhibition spaces.

Not visiting for a little while? Support your museums by making a donation here today

The closest is the NCP car park opposite the Crucible Theatre. Visitors using the Q Park car park on Charles Street are able to claim 50% off the price of their parking – just ask a member for a discount voucher (this discount is currently unavailable with pre-booked parking spaces).
