Saturday 31 August 2019 - Sunday 6 October 2019

Base Materials considers the relevance of the British heritage craft of wood firing pots in our contemporary urban environment.

Led by Sheffield-based artist, Emilie Taylor, a group of adults undertaking great change in their lives explore the metaphor of turning mud into gold, the alchemy of materials and its power to affect our sense of self.

Pots fired in a wood kiln built on the Manor Estate will be displayed alongside images of the12 hour firing and a series of sound pieces. Each of the works reflects the group’s process and their individual experiences of change.

This exhibition is generously supported by Oscar & Sophie Humphries.
