Yorkshire Artspace Silversmiths Starter Studio programme launched in 2002. During the programme Sheffield Assay Office sponsored an annual commission, Precious Little Gems.To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the programme and commissions. a new display in the Millennium Gallery foyer shows a selection of pieces, highlighting the diversity and range of work produced. The display, includes the 2021 commission, created by Georgia Rose Clipsham.
Join Sheffield Museums’ Curator of Industry and Metalwork, Emma Paragreen, who’ll talk about some of the commissions over the last 20 years. You’ll also hear from Georgia Rose Clipsham about her unique commission, a set of three functional vases, inspired by Kangxi miniatures and Claudia Rankin’s ceramic caddies, incorporating her signature chain making.
The programme and the commission opportunity has marked the start of many careers, with participants successfully becoming practicing silversmiths in Sheffield and around the UK. If you are interested in finding out more or you would like to support the next generation of Silversmiths and Jewellers come along to the talk or contact Yorkshire Artspace info@artspace.org.uk
