Magid Magid by Chris Saunders, March 2018 © Chris Saunders

Chris Saunders’ photograph of Magid Magid broke with the traditional formality of a Lord Mayor’s portrait – and went viral. Find out more about how this iconic photograph came about, and hear Chris and Magid discuss what image and identity mean to them.

The portrait features in the Creative Connections Sheffield exhibition, on display at the Millennium Gallery until Sunday 2 October. The exhibition showcases portraits of people connected to Sheffield – from pioneers and performers to athletes and artists – presenting works from the National Portrait Gallery and Sheffield’s own collections. The exhibition will be open to explore before the event starts, from 6pm.

The conversation will be hosted by Auriel Majumdar and there will be time to ask questions at the end.

A note on ticket pricing:
We know that cost is a barrier for some. Thanks to our Creative Connections project funders, we've been able to make ticketing at this event 'Pay What You Can' so that everyone is able to attend, paying whatever they can afford to give. All income we generate through tickets to this talk helps to directly support our future programme of events and exhibitions and to keep Sheffield's museums open and free for everyone to enjoy – if you're able, we'd welcome a ticket contribution of £6.
