LTT Cemetery Landscapes Image - German Military Cemetery WWI & II Cannock Chase Staffordshire

Andy Clayden from the University of Sheffield will explore how different nations responded to the challenge of designing military cemeteries after the Second World War to honour their war dead.

With examples of American, German and Commonwealth military cemeteries, this lunchtime talk will reveal the different challenges that each nation faced in the making of these landscapes.

It will examine research material gathered from national archives and cemetery visits, and reflect on the future of these typically highly maintained landscapes and their significance going forward.

Andy Clayden is a senior lecturer and Landscape Architect in the Department of Landscape Architecture, University of Sheffield. His research focuses on the design and management of cemetery landscapes and sustainable design.
