Andrew Bracey, MA Programme Leader in Fine Art at the University of Lincoln, will lead an informal talk about the influence of other artists on the work of Richard Hamilton, including Velazquez, Titian and Duchamp.

There will be a focus on how Hamilton directly revealed his debt to others through appropriations of their work, which can be seen in his work in It Moves Forward: The Work of Richard Hamilton at the Graves Gallery, and beyond.

A wider discussion of the role of appropriation of imagery in Hamilton’s work will also be discussed using the works in the exhibition as a guide. The talk has plenty of opportunity for discussion and questions.
