Empowering Women, Empower Women: A century of activism in the North of England
Over the last 100 years, women have fought for change across the North of England. Empowering Women, Empower Women tells their stories.
From Women Against Pit Closures to the WI Keep Britain Tidy campaign, the Leeds Clothing Strike and anti-fracking activism, the exhibition shows how women have challenged power in creative, conventional and controversial ways and the impact activism had on the women themselves, the places where they protested, and the communities they were part of.
The objects and stories in the exhibition have been collected as part of Remembering Resistance (Twitter: @rememberresist), a National Lottery Heritage Fund project based at Lancaster University dedicated to cataloguing and celebrating Northern women’s efforts to bring about change over the last century.
