Leonardo da Vinci, Studies for the Trivulzio monument, c.1510-12, Royal Collection Trust © Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 2018

Leonardo da Vinci drew incessantly throughout his life. He used drawing to prepare his paintings, to plan his sculpture and architecture, to invent his machines, to investigate the world around him, to fix the fluid workings of his imagination - to think on paper. As so few of his works reached fruition, most of what we know about Leonardo comes through his drawings.

This talk from Martin Clayton, Head of Prints and Drawings at the Royal Collection Trust, will explore the many aspects of Leonardo's drawings, among the most wide-ranging and beautiful of any artist, with a particular focus on the twelve superlative sheets on display in Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing.
