The time of the Saxons and Vikings, of King Arthur and Beowulf, used to be known as the Dark Ages, and it is a romantic but complicated part of Yorkshire's history.

Archaeological discoveries from these times include stunning gold and garnet jewellery, silver hoards, and more personal, everyday items.

This talk will highlight some of the most interesting Viking and Saxon finds from Yorkshire that have been recorded by the Portable Antiquities Scheme, and use them to illustrate a brief history of the Early Medieval era in Yorkshire.
