Robert Murray, Friend of Museums Sheffield, will be introducing the French Painter, Eugene Boudin, 1824 - 1898, who was an early exponent of painting in the open air.
Boudin was well known for painting subjects to do with the sea. Boudin's Plage en Normandie, France, 1890, on display in the Graves Gallery, will provide a focus for the talk.
The painting can be connected to themes in the second half of the Nineteenth-Century taken up by painters identified with the Impressionist Movement such as the Parisian middle-class at leisure, although conventionally Boudin is not considered to be part of the movement.
