Join Nottingham University’s Professor Mark Rawlinson for a four week introduction to Histories of Art, inspired by Going Public: The Kirkland Collection.
This short course is designed for adult beginners with no previous experience required. The sessions will take an in depth look at Modern Art, using the Graves Gallery exhibition to spark debate, questions and learn about the complex ideas behind the collection.
Week 3: Materials
A key feature of Modern and Contemporary Art has been its use of unusual materials in the making of artworks. In this session, we will discuss this broadening of the artist’s palette, and explore why some artists abandoned paints and canvas in favour of other materials, like bricks, copper, and steel tubes.
