Join Nottingham University’s Professor Mark Rawlinson for a four week introduction to Histories of Art, inspired by Going Public: The Kirkland Collection.
This short course is designed for adult beginners with no previous experience required. The sessions will take an in depth look at Modern Art, using the Graves Gallery exhibition to spark debate, questions and learn about the complex ideas behind the collection.
Week 1: The Birth of Modern Art
In this session, we will look at the emergence of modern art, where it came from, and who made it, and why? Of particular interest is the concept of Modernism, a complex set of ideas whose driving feature was the rejection of tradition in the production, display and criticism of the art.
