Susan North, Curator of Fashion at the V&A, will talk about the history of blackwork embroidery, a very distinctive style of English embroidery that flourished from about 1520 to 1620.  It was influenced by abstract Islamic designs, the English love of nature and woodblock printing, and was used for the adornment of both fashionable dress and domestic textiles.
