The Seven Treasures: Japanese Enamels from the V&A

Bowl, Unsigned, Nagoya, 1912–26 Gift of Edwin Davies © Victoria and Albert Museum, London
Saturday 26 January 2013 - Sunday 2 June 2013
Enamelling is a painstaking and time-consuming craft, a fact often obscured by the polished brilliance of the finished objects.

Between 1880 and 1910, the Japanese enamelling industry reached a level of exquisite sophistication that would later come to be regarded as a Golden Age. This exhibition showcases some of the most beautiful Japanese enamels in the V&A’s extensive collection, alongside enamels produced in Sheffield, showing different but not unrelated traditions and techniques.

'Amazing - such a great collection'
