Sheffield Life and Times

© Carl Rose.

Our new displays in Sheffield Life & Times share even more of the city’s stories, all from the point of view of people who’ve lived here.

You'll discover a true Sheffield icon, the original 1960s Cole Brothers sign, which finds a new home in the gallery as part of our focus on shopping in the city. New displays opening soon explore Sheffield’s sporting history, from cricket in the 1800s through to the Sheffield Roller Girls competing in the city today. We also fly the flag for protest in Sheffield with a display of 20th century posters representing causes from CND to Anti-Apartheid.

Our new timeline cases illustrate different moments in the city’s history, from Victorian fashions to home life in the 1950s. A new 3D map highlights some of Sheffield’s key historical sites, while visitors can also take charge of turning back the clock themselves with our interactive digital map.

Alongside the new additions, you’ll still find all your Sheffield Life & Times favourites, including Burton’s butchers shop, the Park Hill kitchen, the Victorian yard and more.

Sheffield Life & Times has been supported by a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
