Henry Tonks and his Slade School Students
“Respected by all…feared by many”
A former surgeon and anatomist, Henry Tonks was obsessed with drawing the human figure. His skill as a draughtsman led to his appointment as professor at the Slade School of Fine Art which in turn dramatically influenced a new generation of British artists.
This small display explores the tutor and his former students through their drawings of the human form including works by Gertler, Bomberg, Spencer and Nash.
