Sculptors’ Work on Paper from Sheffield’s collection 1945 - 75

Spinning Man VIII, 1965 by Elizabeth Frink © Elisabeth Frink Estate
Saturday 10 March 2018 - Saturday 15 September 2018

A small display of works on paper by artists who also work in sculpture. It explores how artists use different means to explore their ideas.

Some of the drawings, watercolours, prints and collages on display are preparation for sculptures. Other works show how artists use different media to investigate form or subject matter. All of the works show how artists use two dimensions to explore themes, materials and methods that connect to their thinking in sculpture.

This presentation is part of a research project, The Kitchen Sink Too: British Art 1945-75 in Sheffield’s collection. It is supported by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
