The Objects in 3D project has allowed us to display over 200 pieces from Sheffield’s unique metalwork collection. Using state-of-the-art fast scanning technologies, our partners at Sheffield Hallam University captured 3D images of objects ranging from Sheffield-made pewter to Sumatran ceremonial brass. Objects which aren’t normally displayed, or are too delicate for handling, can now be experienced ‘virtually’ from anywhere in the world including your classroom. This pioneering project celebrates Sheffield’s unique place in the world history of metal-making.
To help teachers fully benefit from this valuable resource we have developed a teachers’ pack that can be used to support KS 3-4 Design and Technology. The pack includes support materials and suggested activities for use with nine of the Objects in 3D pieces. The 3D images are located here.

We have provided example CAFÉ QUE analysis for the mustard pot here and the tea urn here.
