Trying something new can be a little bit scary, but what a great feeling when you make the connection. We're trying new things all the time and we want you to try them too, so come with us and we'll help connect you with art, nature, history, ideas - and each other.

You can connect with us in lots of ways. Through our four museums, through our events and exhibitions, when we're out and about and right here on our website.

Jump in. Discover something new.

Tours & Talks
You'll find a free tour happening most weeks at one of our sites. Every other Saturday at 2pm, one of the Learning Team will show you some of the highlights of the city's collections. Every other Thursday at 1pm, you can meet one of the Curators who will take you around one of the exhibitions or displays.

Our evening talks give you the chance to hear from a host of people who bring interesting insights to the exhibitions and collections. You'll be able to meet artists, curators and guest speakers, and quiz them about their specialist subjects. These generally happen on Wednesday evenings at various points throughout the year.

Classes and Workshops
Feeling inspired by the things you've seen? There are lots of ways to get stuck in and find out more or have a go yourself.

During term time, we have regular art classes which are suitable for beginners and those with more experience:
  • On Thursday mornings you can join the Connecting with the Collections class at the Graves Gallery. Taking inspiration from the collections and exhibitions in the gallery, you’ll use a range of techniques to create your own response.
  • Every Friday we have our popular traditional life drawing classes at the Millennium Gallery, giving you the chance to hone your drawing skills working from a nude model. There are a range of male and female models used throughout the term. One of our regular tutors is on hand to give you support.

On the last Sunday of the month you'll find a full day workshop from 11.30am to 4pm, giving you chance to try something new or develop your own skills. These range from creative writing and knitting, to felt making and clay figure sculpting. There are usually between 10 and 20 people on the course, depending on the subject.

Each term we offer at least one short course so that you can develop your skills. Each session usually lasts 2 hours each week, for between 6 to 10 weeks. Sessions usually take place on a Wednesday afternoon or evening. There are usually between 10 and 20 people on these courses.

Events
Alongside our exhibitions we run a lively programme of events. These can be anything from guided walks by our Natural History curators to Chocolate Tasting evenings, painting demonstrations to live music performances.
