V&A Partnership
Museums Sheffield enjoys a long-term relationship with the V&A. The V&A helped develop the original plans for the Millennium Gallery and a formal ten year partnership agreement was signed in 1999.
The partnership has allowed the V&A to bring masterpieces from their collections to Yorkshire, to be seen by a new audience - over 17,000 people saw Precious the blockbuster exhibition that opened the Millennium Gallery in April 2001. Many other V&A supported exhibitions have followed -The Power of the Poster, Constable: a Breath of Fresh Air which was seen by 29,000 people, FlowerPower, The Biggest Draw, Aspects of Architecture, and more recently in 2006, the phenomenally successful Palace & Mosque seen by 19,000 visitors.
The partnership also allows both organisations to learn from each other and share museum skills and experience at all levels.

Tate and National Portrait Gallery
Museums Sheffield also have continuing long-term relationships with both Tate and the National Portrait Gallery.
Museums Sheffield was one of five galleries included in the Tate Partnership Scheme. This was a joint initiative, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which increased public access to the Tate Collection through a series of loans and exhibitions and provided new opportunities for training and development.

As a preferred partner to both national organisations, Museums Sheffield has enjoyed some exciting collaborative exhibitions at the Millennium Gallery including the widely acclaimed Tate Sculpture and Heroes & Villains, which drew on portraits from the National Portrait Gallery.

Sheffield Assay Office
The presence of contemporary metalwork in the Millennium Gallery has been greatly enhanced by a continuing partnership with Sheffield Assay Office. The magnificent Millennium Punchbowl, on long-term display in the Metalwork Gallery, has been joined by specially commissioned punch cups.
The Little Gems, commissioned by the Assay Office from up and coming young talent in the Persistence Works starter studios in Sheffield, have been displayed in a new display case in the Millennium Gallery. The Assay Office have also generously donated three of the Little Gems to Museums Sheffield's permanent collection. This partnership reflects the continuing importance of Sheffield as a home for contemporary, cutting-edge metalwork of international renown.
