The grande dame of fashion Vivienne Westwood is to deliver her famous cultural manifesto at Sheffield Hallam University with the help of local performing arts students.
On the eve of the opening of her celebrated V&A exhibition, the iconic fashion designer will address an audience at the University's City Campus and take part in a question and answer session.

Cutting a Dash - create your own designer skirt
Saturday 28 June & Sunday 29 June SOLD OUT

Try your hand at designing and sewing an original skirt of your own with the help of tutor Sue Lancaster, using trademark Vivienne fabrics such as tweed and tartan. The sewing skills involved will be tailored to your own abilities, with beginners welcome, however a sewing machine is required for this workshop.
 
Getting Ahead - hat-making workshop

Design and make your own stylish look with the help of tutor Sue Lancaster, exploring some of Vivienne’s themes such as cutting and slashing and the use of unconventional fabrics. No previous experience necessary, however a sewing machine is required for this workshop.
 
Creative Pattern Cutting - professional demonstration

Watch a professional pattern cutter at work as he demonstrates the design process used by Vivienne, making a mock draping in calico of the iconic piece on display from the ‘Pirates’ collection.

Sew a stunning bodice, inspired by Vivienne’s original and fearless style with the help of tutor Jo Owen. The sewing skills involved will be tailored to your own abilities, with beginners welcome, however a sewing machine is required for this workshop.
 
Bags of Flair - bag-making workshop

Designing and sew that key accessory - an individual bag - using the exhibition as inspiration. No previous experience necessary ,however a sewing machine is required for this workshop.
 
Corsets in Context - the inside story
Saturday 26 July, 10.30am - 1.30pm

Vivienne’s reworking of the corset has become one of her most recognisable trademarks. Laurie Truscott from De Montfort University will introduce the components of a corset and discuss the historical references, pattern cutting and techniques used in the exhibition.
