1. Submission Requirements
What were looking for
Museums Sheffield invites submissions which are both brave and bold; designs which make a leap forward in contemporary metalwork and impress through their originality and ingenuity.

Submissions should show:
  • Evidence of your creative design approach and imagination.
  • Quality and development of your ideas and concepts.
  • Quality of making, craftsmanship and skill.

2. What should be submitted
i. Applicants may submit preparatory designs for up to three separate objects.

ii. Applicants may submit up to six pieces of preparatory material per object. This can include drawings, illustrations, prototypes and/or photographs (up to A3 in size).

iii. Design proposals should be for objects no larger than 300 mm in height, 300 mm in width and 300 mm in depth. This size restriction is essential as the winning object will join the Museums Sheffield metalwork collection.

iv. Applicants may submit proposals for work in any metal. Metal should be the primary material used, although complimentary material will be accepted if it is part of the overall design. Applicants must state all media that they will be working with on the Application Form.

v. Applicants may submit proposals for new work that corresponds to the Submission Criteria or they may choose to submit evidence of a work that is already completed which they feel fits the criteria. Applicants entering completed objects must still show evidence of their concept development and design approach.

vi. Applicants are asked to ensure that any designs/photographs/models submitted are clearly labelled with their name, address and title of the work.

vii. Entries must not have been submitted or displayed at any previous exhibition or event, and must have been completed within the last 3 three years.

viii. Entries to the Award must be accompanied by a £10 cheque (made payable to Museums Sheffield) to cover administration costs

3. After the Application Pack has been received
i. Applicants will be notified that their Application Form has been received via a letter/email of confirmation.

ii. Once the judging panel has selected a shortlist of 12 finalists, all applicants will be notified of the panel's decision by letter (week commencing 19 April 2010).

iii. Applicants must confirm their acceptance to proceed to the second stage of the Award by Friday 30 April 2010. The 12 finalists will be asked to submit their completed pieces by 15 September 2010.
