1. Submission Requirements
|
The National Metalwork Design Award 2008 invites submissions that are both brave and bold; designs which make a leap forward in contemporary metalwork. Submissions must clearly indicate:- Evidence of your creative design approach and imagination.
- Quality and development of your ideas and concepts.
- Originality of the design submitted.
- Quality of making, craftsmanship and skill.

2. What should be submitted
|
i. Applicants may submit up to 3 designs pieces.
ii. Each design submitted must be sent to the Award Administration Office with its own completed and signed Application Form and a cheque for the sum of £10.00, made payable to Museums Sheffield, along with preparatory material.
iii. Applicants may submit a maximum of 6 pieces of preparatory material per submission. This can include drawings, illustrations, prototypes and or photographs. These will be non-returnable.
iv. All photographs submitted must be in colour. The minimum measurements of the images supplied must be no less than 150 x 210 mm (A5) and not exceed 300 x 210 mm (A4). We request that drawings and illustrations do not exceed A3 proportions.
v. Proposals for work must take into account that the object to be made should be a maximum of 300 mm in height, 300 mm in width and 300 mm in depth.
vi. Applicants are able to submit proposals for pieces in any metal. Metal should be the primary material used although complimentary material will be accepted if it is part of the overall design. Applicants must state all media that they will be working with in the Application Form.
vii. Applicants may submit proposals for new pieces that correspond to the Submission Requirements or they may choose to submit evidence of a work that is already completed that they feel fits the criterion of the Submission Requirements for the award. All applicants must supply materials that show evidence of the development of their ideas and concepts as well as evidence of their creative design approach.
viii. Applicants are asked to ensure that any designs/photographs/models submitted are correctly labelled with their name, address and title of the work. All labelling must be clearly visible.
ix. Work must not have been submitted or displayed at any previous exhibition or event, and must have been completed within the last 3 years.

3. After the Application Pack has been received by the Award Administration Office
|
i. Applicants will be notified that their Application Form has been received via a letter of confirmation.
ii. Once the selection panel has selected the shortlist of 12 finalists, all applicants will be notified of the panels decision by letter.
iii. Applicants must confirm their acceptance to proceed to the second stage of the Award by 15 March 2008. The 12 finalists will be asked to send in their completed pieces by 4 September 2008.
iv. Once the 12 works shortlisted by the panel have been received, they will remain on Museums Sheffield premises until the end of the award process in November 2008.
v. The 12 shortlisted works will be displayed in the Millennium Gallery Avenue from 4 October until 3 December 2008.
vi. The 11 applicants who were shortlisted but not selected as the final winner of the prize will have the opportunity to sell their work in the Millennium Gallery craft selling show, Christmas Crackers from November 2008 to January 2009.

4. Awards Ceremony
|
i. An Awards Ceremony will be held on 2 December 2008 at the Millennium Gallery to celebrate the achievements of the 12 finalists and reveal the chosen overall winner who will receive a £10,000 prize.
ii. The prize-winning piece will become part of Sheffield's Designated Metalwork Collection to be displayed at the discretion of Museums Sheffield.
