Cutting Edge Project Vacancies

Cutlery is at the heart of Museums Sheffield’s Designated Metalwork Collection. The Cutting Edge project will focus specifically on cutlery made in Sheffield, encompassing over 4000 objects including table knives, razors, scissors and folding knives. This project aims to raise the profile of the collection increasing the access, developing online and printed resources as well as improving the care of the collection.

This project is funded by the Arts Council England Designation Development Fund.

Project Curator – Cutting Edge

Salary: £18,761 - £22,071

Ref: MSPC 04/14

The Project Curator will be responsible for the documentation, research and care of the Sheffield Cutlery collection, working alongside the Collection Assistant and a team of volunteers. The post holder will work with city wide partners to research and develop an online Cutlery Map and will organise a range of training, advocacy and public events to raise the profile of the collection.

This post is a 37 hour fixed term contract for 12 months working in our Curatorial Services department and are funded by Arts Council England Designation Development Fund.

Collections Assistant – Cutting Edge

Salary: £15,976 - £18,795

Ref: MSCA 04/14

The Collections Assistant will assist in the documentation, research and care of the Sheffield Cutlery collection. The post holder will work with a team of volunteers to document the Sheffield made cutlery objects, input into the Collections Management database, organise photography, undertake condition assessments and re-house objects.

This post is a 37 hour fixed term contract for 12 months working in our Curatorial Services department and are funded by Arts Council England Designation Development Fund.

Technician

Salary: £14,899-£17,528

Ref: MST 04/14

A 37 hour fixed term post until 31 March 2015 working as part of our Technical Team.

Arts Council England have awarded funding to Museums Sheffield and will fund projects through to March 2015. Supporting a diverse programme of activity, these posts will be part of a small team of Technicians responsible for the installation and maintenance of exhibitions and displays across all of our sites.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual, highly skilled in the use of hand and power tools together with an awareness of the particular issues associated with sometimes fragile and valuable works of art. The successful candidate will be a team player, diligent, have excellent attention to detail and a demonstrable ability to complete multiple tasks to the highest of display standards.

Visitor Services Manager (21 hour contract)

Salary: £17,051 - £20,060 pa (pro rata)

This is a fixed term contract until 31 March 2015.

We have a vacancy for a Visitor Services Manager working 21 hours per week within our Visitor Services Team.

Museums Sheffield is the charitable trust responsible for the Millennium Gallery, Graves Gallery and Weston Park Museum. We showcase the best in art & design, celebrate Sheffield’s rich heritage and care for the city’s diverse collections.

Our Visitor Services Managers play an important part in the delivery of first class visitor experience across our museums and galleries. We are looking for someone who is committed to excellent visitor service and able to deliver engaging customer service training to our team of Visitor Assistants.

The ideal candidate will work well within a large team; have excellent interpersonal skills and experience of managing a team. This role is worked on a rota basis over 7 days.

Retail Assistant Waiting List

Salary: £13,645 - £16,053 pro rata

We are now recruiting to our Retail Assistant waiting list. 

We are looking to form a pool of people to call upon to fulfil future vacancies for positions of 28 hours, 21 hours and 12 hours.  The successful candidates will be required to be fully flexible and work on a rota basis across 7 days with no fixed days off. 

The Retail Assistant role is crucial to providing a high quality customer experience across all our sites. We are looking for people who are passionate about retail with outgoing personalities who enjoy engaging with customers. Flexibility is essential to the role.

Design Opportunity

The Millennium Gallery is set to provide a vibrant new showcase for the city’s renowned Metalwork Collection. This project will transform the gallery’s existing displays of decorative metalwork, cutlery and flatware with a complete refurbishment. The project will start in spring 2014 with the launch of the new gallery scheduled for February 2015. the project is supported by DCMS/Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund.

Museums Sheffield will be appointing a design agency to develop and realise ideas for the Metalwork Gallery. All tenders to be submitted by the 6 May 2014.

Catering Assistant

A 20 hours+ position (5 days out of 7) based across 4 city centre sites (Millennium Gallery, Graves Gallery, Central Library foyer, Weston Park Museum)

- Duties include: waiting on tables, barista skills, cleaning, counter service and computerised till operation.
- Some late night working will be required (catering for a range evening events)
- The succesful candidate should demonstrate extensive/provable experience
- Basic food hygiene certificate required (training can be provided)
- Uniform will be provided
- We operate a Tronc system for gratuities
