A Festival partner, the Golden Threads exhibition at Bradford Industrial Museum (19 May – 16 September 2012) will explore, through the diverse textile collections,Bradford’s link with the wider world. The textile collections include one of the largest and most important collections of South Asian art and craft outsideLondonas well as the Designated Worsted Collection.

Young Curators / Ambassadors will select and re-interpret objects which showcase Bradford’s heritage and which make it the unique City it is today. These include: A fancy dress costume worn by Mrs Titus Salt Jnr to a ball she hosted in 1895 at which guests appeared in Egyptian, Chinese and Huguenot costumes; 19 and 20 century Indian textiles; European and South Asian contemporary and historical costume and silk and patchwork wall hangings made by Bradford Young Ambassadors in response to the collections.

A new graffiti piece, produced in conjunction with internationally acclaimed urban artist Mohammed Ali, will also be included in the exhibition, as well as film and audio created with the group.

A new 2012 worsted cloth, designed with the Young Ambassadors, will be woven at Bradford Industrial Museumand will be used to make a set of waistcoats, each one reflecting cultural and design influences from the collections.

‘Golden Threads makes links between historical and modern Bradford using museum and gallery collections to reflect cultural connections across time. Through the objects we have come together to share knowledge and experience, to inspire with stories of Bradford people and to showcase our re-interpretation of Bradford’s unique collections’.  Bradford Young Curators
