Dales Countryside Museum - Treasured Possessions
Community groups, schools in the Dales and museum visitors have been thinking about what's special to them, and what the Dales Countryside. Museums should collect today to save for future generations. They've been choosing things they think are special in the Museum, interviewing their families about things that are special to them and creating digi-stories to display in the Treasured Possessions exhibition.
The project will engage young people with their heritage, either within groups or as individuals by encouraging them to identify the things that are special to them both within their home environment and the Museum, enabling them to investigate the objects they feel are special within the Museum collection and to interpret them in a variety of ways using multi-media technology. Participants will be able to learn new skills such as animation, digi-story creation, the creation of resources for use on display screens and PSP machines and the creation of exhibition displays. Exhibition material and resources developed by the young people will be included within the Treasured Possessions exhibition that will be displayed during 2012 and will be presented in a variety of ways on site and via various websites.
Let us know what things are special to you. Do they have stories to tell? Does it have links to a local custom or family tradition, or is it from outside the area?
